Claremont — New Hampshire Fish and Game will be shutting down the boat landing at Ashley Ferry on the Connecticut River beginning on Monday for removal of silt that has accumulated in the water.

The work is expected to take four days, with the ramp and parking area off River Road reopening late Thursday. Fish and Game also will be regrading the parking area.

A plastic shield called a turbidity curtain will be installed during the first two days for the purpose of trapping silt in the water that is stirred up as a result of dredging.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Fish and Game will be using earth-moving equipment to regrade the parking area and there will be no opportunity to launch boats.

Boaters can launch their craft at the landing in Springfield, Vt., just across the bridge from Charlestown, or at the Cornish boat landing slightly north of the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge.
