First Branch Unified School District annual meeting preview

Articles of note: An article proposes transferring $167,000 to the district’s capital reserve fund from a $522,000 surplus. Voters will also consider the transfer of $267,000 from that surplus to a tuition reserve fund. 

Contested races: Voters will elect one representative from Chelsea to a three-year term on the board, one representative for Tunbridge to a three-year term, and one Tunbridge representative to fill the remaining year of a three-year term. Nominations and voting for those positions will be from the floor. 

Budgets and spending articles: The proposed operating budget is $8.4 million, which is an increase from last year’s $7.7 million budget. The board originally warned a budget of $8.6 million, which it rescinded to make spending cuts.

When, where, and how to vote: Floor voting is scheduled to take place in the gymnasium of the Tunbridge campus of the First Branch Unified School District on Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m.
