ENFIELD — Residents decided Tuesday to maintain Enfield’s current course, delivering Selectboard Chairwoman Kate Stewart another three-year term and retaining the town manager system of government in place since 1996.

Stewart won 362 votes during Australian ballot voting to defeat challenger Sam Eaton, vice chairman of the town’s Budget Committee, who received 242 votes.

A petitioned warrant article asking the town to do away with the town manager position in favor of a town administrator also was defeated. Residents voted, 458-139, to keep the town manager post over an alternative that would have returned more responsibilities to the Selectboard.

Voting on the town budget and other warrant articles will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, at Huse Park.
