Rutland, Vt. — Eleanor J “Ellie” Smith, 78 of Rutland Town, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 4, 1938 in Bethel, Vt. the daughter of Harold Bryant and Oriet (Linscott) Smith.

She graduated from Randolph High School and later from Trinity College in 1985, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Ellie worked for 32 years as a US Postal employee and was a member of NARFE, NAPUS/UPMA and was a Postmaster Representative.

She was a former member of the Ascutney Union Church and the Sharon Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Most recently she was a member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, where she served as a deacon, was in Fortnightly and on Jubilee Justice.

Ellie was a member of the Mayflower Society and the 251 Club.

Married to Norman E. Davis in Braintree, Vt., they later divorced.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Harold Smith and Reginald Allan Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Robin Rose Fedchenko and her husband, Joel of Springfield, Vt. and Beth Lynn Davis of Rutland Town; two sisters, Jennie Ella Wright of Chester, Vt. and Sandra Elizabeth Button and her husband, David of Chelsea, Vt.; a brother, Kenneth Edward Smith and his wife, Lameta of Winthrop, Maine; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Smith; two grandchildren, Miranda Jean Fedchenko and Paul Alexander Fedchenko; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Fri., Jan. 6, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Tossing Funeral Home.

The memorial service will be held Sat., Jan. 7, 2017 at 11 A.M. in Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. John C.Weatherhogg, senior minister officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Randolph, Vt.
