The New Hampshire Department of Safety announced that it is investigating the discovery of “school shooter” signs in the towns of Barnstead, Epsom and Pittsfield and said there will be an increased police presence at schools in those towns until further notice.

The Department of Safety said it is collaborating with local law enforcement to investigate the signs, one of which is a paper plate with the words “school shooter!” written on it in black marker. Officials released a photograph of the plate, which appears to have additional writing, blurred to “protect the integrity of the investigation,” according to a statement.

While the Department has not received information indicating any imminent threats, state and local law enforcement were present at all schools within the three towns. The Department said an increased law enforcement presence would remain at the schools until the situation was fully resolved.
