Brother David J. Carignan, M.S.

Enfield, N.H. — Brother David J. Carignan, M.S., 70, a Missionary of Our Lady of La Salette, died peacefully on his birthday, Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born Feb. 11, 1948, in Franklin, N.H., son of the late Romeo and Mariette (Forest) Carignan.

Brother David attended high school at the La Salette Seminary in Enfield and continued his education by receiving a B.A. in Sociology at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. and his M. Div. at Weston College in Cambridge, Mass. He entered the Novitiate of the Missionaries of La Salette on July 26, 1970, in Attleboro, Mass. He made his First Commitment on Oct. 3, 1971, and pronounced his Perpetual Profession of Vows on Feb. 22, 1976. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon in Enfield on March 20, 1976. Brother David served at the La Salette National Shrine in Attleboro, Mass. on several Boards and Commissions. In 1989, he continued his ministry at the La Salette Shrine and Conference Center in Enfield as the manager of the gift shop, as well as serving on the Missionary Advisory Board, the La Salette Finance Committee and the Attleboro Task Force.

Brother David was the face of La Salette to all who visited the Shrine’s Gift Shop. He was caring, supportive and helpful to those who came in contact with him. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his La Salette Community, Brother David, is survived by three brothers: Marc (Christine) Carignan of Fripp Island, S.C.; Forest (Anne) Carignan of Bedford, Mass.; Alan Carignan of Franklin, N.H.; and one sister: Lise (David) Farrand of Hooksett, N.H. In addition to his nieces and nephews: Evan Carignan, Renee Carignan, Nicole Slowinkski, Rhiana Carignan, Bailey Carignan, Keenan Farrand and Kelly Farrand, he will be remembered by many other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at the La Salette Shrine Chapel in Enfield. The wake will be held at the La Salette Shrine Chapel in Enfield on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at the La Salette Cemetery in Enfield in the spring.
