AMHERST, Mass. — Ben Jenkins’ first varsity goal wasn’t enough to keep the Dartmouth College men’s soccer team from a 2-1 loss at Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon at Rudd Field.

Jenkins, a graduate of Concord’s St. Paul’s School by way of Newburyport, Mass., gave the Big Green (0-3-0) a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. Dartmouth — which dropped matches at Washington and Seattle over the weekend — into the second half, but the Minutemen (4-1-1) rallied for the victory.

UMass tied the contest in the 65th minute, as Joe Leslie notched his fourth goal of the season. Leslie also factored on the winner, feeding Ryan Levay for his first goal of the season with 4:39 left in regulation.

Massachusetts — coached by former Big Green bench boss Fran O’Leary — beat Dartmouth for the first time since 2012. O’Leary, who guided the Big Green from 1994-2000 before stints at George Mason, Bowdoin and MLS’ Toronto FC, is in his sixth campaign in Amherst.

Dartmouth goalkeeper Alex Budnik finished with three saves. The Big Green is off until a Tuesday night road trip to UConn.
