Dartmouth roundup: Women’s volleyball takes own invitational

HANOVER — The Dartmouth College women’s volleyball team swept matches from Holy Cross and Connecticut on Saturday at Leede Arena to claim the title of its own Dartmouth Invitational and remain unbeaten on the early season.

The Big Green (6-0) won both matches in four sets. Dartmouth started off with a 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 defeat of the Crusaders, following with a dramatic four-set ouster of the Huskies (26-24, 25-20, 13-25, 27-25).

This is the first time that the Big Green has won its home invite since 2015.

Dartmouth’s Emma Engstrom was chosen tournament MVP. Engstrom was a defensive standout, amassing 26 digs in the Holy Cross victory. Teammates Ellie Blain and Karen Murphy joined Engstrom on the all-tourney side.

The Big Green plays in the Hartford Invitational this weekend.

Women’s Rugby Dartmouth 50, Quinnipiac 10

HAMDEN, Conn. — The Big Green (2-0) recorded its most lopsided win in seven years of contests against the Bobcats.

Lilly Durbin led Dartmouth with 20 points scored off four tries. Four other Big Green players crossed the try line, and Kristin Bitter kicked four conversions.

Sophie Haley broke the deadlock with a 23rd-minute try, followed by a Bitter kick. Seven Sassano and Durbin scored 10 minutes apart to up the lead to 17-0. Dartmouth stayed in charge the rest of the way.

The Big Green travels to Army West Point for its next match on Sunday.

CROSS COUNTRY Dartmouth sweeps Invitational

HANOVER — Big Green runners swept the top three women’s spot and the top two among the men to claim the season-opening Maribel Sanchez Southern Invitational at the former Hanover Country Club.

The Dartmouth women (21 points) beat out SUNY Geneseo, Towson and Maine for honors. Ellie Tymorek won the 5K race in 21:59.92, with Corinne Robitaille and Emma Kerimo right behind.

Sophomore Will Daley and freshman Albert Velikonija were 1-2 for the Dartmouth men in their varsity debuts. Daley covered 8K in 25:26.61. The Big Green (37 points) edged SUNY Geneseo (39), with Maine third (54).
