HANOVER — Make that two in a row to start the 2020 season. The Dartmouth men’s lacrosse team stormed back to beat visiting Bryant, 11-8, in its home opener on Saturday to remain unblemished in the young season.

The teams started slow with the score deadlocked at 2-2 at halftime. Bryant scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter, all in the first five minutes of the frame, to lead, 8-5. Dartmouth then exploded for six unanswered goals to end the game.

Matt Paul and Ben Martin each had three goals to lead the Big Green attack. George Prince had two goals and two assists. Harlan Smart, Mitchell Myers and Liam O’Connell also found the back of the net. Martin, Tommy Rogan, Trevor Ballantyne, Andrew Johnston and Jack Richardson added one assist each.

Goalie Daniel Hincks made 10 saves for Dartmouth, which was outshot 35-30 by Bryant.

The Big Green (2-0) visit UMass-Lowell on Saturday.

MEN’S HOCKEYClarkson 4, Dartmouth 0

POTSDAM, N.Y. — A three-goal third period and a 27-save shutout from goalie Frank Marotte separated Clarkson from the Big Green (12-11-4, 9-9-2).

The loss and Quinnipiac’s 3-2 overtime win over Union knocked Dartmouth out of contention for a top-four seed in the upcoming ECAC Hockey tournament. Adrian Clark finished with 28 saves.

Women’s HockeyClarkson 2, Dartmouth 1

HANOVER — The Big Green had their season come to an end with a loss to Clarkson. Georgia Kraus scored late in the first period to give Dartmouth an early lead, her second goal of the season. The Golden Knights added one goal each in the next two periods to win.

Senior Bailee Brekke had an assist for Dartmouth (7-19-3 overall, 4-15-3 ECAC). Classmate Charlie Plumb got the first start of her career in goal before making way for teammate Kayla Wormsbecher.

The Big Green will lose Brekke, Plumb, Christina Rombaut and Sydney Hill to graduation.

SoftballDartmouth splits two

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Big Green (2-2) split a doubleheader on day two of the Charleston Classic, falling to Army, 12-4, before beating Ohio, 6-4.

Army scored six runs in the second inning and five in the sixth to outslug Dartmouth in the first game. Abby Shipley was 2-for-3 with a 2-run home run for the Big Green. Schae Nelson and Micah Schroder each had solo homers.

Nelson was 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and a walk to lead the attack in the win over Ohio. Schroder added two hits, two RBIs and scored twice. Shipley and Billie McFadyen had two hits each.

Brooke Plonka started in the circle and went the first four innings, allowing three earned runs. Madie Augusto got the win, tossing 2⅔ innings of one-run relief.

Dartmouth faces North Carolina A&T at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

BaseballDartmouth splits with Chicago State

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — The Big Green won game one, 6-2, before losing in the nightcap, 3-0, to Chicago State at the Snowbird Classic.

Ubaldo Lopez was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and a run driven in to lead Dartmouth in the opener. Trystan Sarcone earned his first collegiate victory with five strong innings or relief work, striking out eight while allowing just one run. Sarcone and starting pitcher Nathan Skinner combined to fan 14 Cougars.

Jonah Jenkins lost a pitcher’s duel in game two, allowing one run on four hits over 5⅔ innings.

Dartmouth will battle Omaha on the final day of the Snowbird Classic on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Women’s BasketballPrinceton 87Dartmouth 55

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Big Green (8-15, 2-8 Ivy) couldn’t keep pace in the second half in a loss to the Tigers.

Princeton led by just two, 34-32, at halftime before outscoring Dartmouth, 31-11, in the third quarter to take control. Anna Luce and Asha Taylor had 10 points apiece for the Big Green. Katie Douglas had eight. Annie McKenna, Elle Louie and Veronica Kelly had six points each.

Dartmouth hosts Cornell on Friday night.

Men’s BasketballPrinceton 65Dartmouth 62

HANOVER — The Big Green scored 38 points in the second half only to see their comeback attempt come up short in the final minutes.

Princeton led, 61-54, with 2:51 to play before Dartmouth rallied to within a point in the final minute.

Chris Knight had 27 points and 12 rebounds for the Big Green. Aaryn Rai had 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting. James Foye added nine points.

Dartmouth (10-15, 3-7 Ivy) visits Cornell on Friday.

Women’s SwimmingDartmouth seventh in Ivy Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Big Green took seventh in the Ivy League Championship, with Princeton winning the league title.

Mia Leko was third in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:57.92 for Dartmouth. Christina Cianciolo took 18th in the 1,650 freestyle in 17:04.62. Susannah Laster was 11th in the 200 backstroke (1:58.68). Sophie Smith was 11th, Ashley Post was 13th and Zoe Wortzman was 17th in the 100 free.

Maggie Deppe-Walker took 14th in the 200 breaststroke, beating teammate Megan Tao (20th). The 400-yard freestyle relay team took fourth.

Women’s SquashDartmouth 8, Brown 1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The No. 9 ranked Big Green took down Brown to advance to the Kurtz Cup final.

Jesse Brownell (11-8, 11-6, 11-9) earned the lone Dartmouth sweep. Ellie Gozigian, Sandra Reiss and Julia Potter all won in four games. Dartmouth added another four wins in five.

Dartmouth will face Virginia in the Cup final on Sunday.
