Dartmouth Roundup: Big Green competes SEC men’s tennis sweep

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Dartmouth College men’s tennis team completed a weekend sweep of Southeastern Conference foes by grabbing a 4-3 win from LSU at the University of Alabama on Sunday.

As it did in a similar defeat of the Crimson Tide on Friday, Dartmouth (3-0) won the doubles point and split the six singles matches to hand an SEC opponent its first defeat of the season. The Big Green established a 3-2 lead with wins from No. 4 Peter Conklin and No. 5 Alejandro Quiles, then waited out a decisive victory from No. 2 Dan Martin to claim the match from the Tigers (5-1).

The Big Green returns home to host Rice on Friday.

WOMEN’S TENNISDartmouth 6, Brown 1

HANOVER — The Big Green (2-1) controlled the Bears in a nonleague matchup at the Boss Center.

After sweeping all three doubles encounters for the opening point, Dartmouth rolled to wins in five of the six singles matches. Racquel Lyn, Ashley Hess, Nina Paripovic and Allison McCann all won in straight sets, and No. 1 Nicole Conard won in three sets.

Dartmouth heads to Virginia to visit Williams & Mary on Saturday and Old Dominion on Sunday.

SWIMMING/DIVING Dartmouth wins Ramsden meet

HANOVER — Dartmouth’s men and women’s completed a sweep of the Tate Ramsden Invitational meet, beating Massachusetts at the Karl Michael Pool.

The men earned a 187.5-142.5 as Connor LaMastra broke another longstanding school record. In addition to winning the 200 free in 1 minutes, 38.09 seconds, LaMastra busted a 39-year-old mark by taking 1,650 free (15:20.72).

Matt Luciano (100 butterfly), Noah Hensley (100 backstroke) and Justin Sodokoff (1- and 3-meter board) also won.

Christina Canciolo also won the 1,650 free (17:03.00) in record time to lead the women to a 189-136 defeat of UMass. Big Green athletes combined to win 10 other events.

Dartmouth returns to Ivy League competition at Columbia on Saturday.
