HANOVER —– Some students and staff at Dartmouth College will soon be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine thanks to a partnership between the college and the state of New Hampshire, according to an announcement from Dartmouth on Friday evening.

Students and staff who are New Hampshire residents and fall into the state’s Phase 2a or 2b categories will be able to schedule appointments beginning this Tuesday. The vaccine will be administered at the former JCPenney, which is now an empty storefront off of Route 12A in Lebanon. Dartmouth will pay up to two hours of wages to staff members who need to take time off to get the vaccine.

People who fall into Phase 2a include at-risk residents who work in New Hampshire K-12 schools, youth camps or child care facilities. People who fall into Phase 2b include anyone age 50 to 64 years old, the notice said.

Vermont residents and family of staff and students are not eligible, according to the announcement.

However, Vermont residents are seeing a quicker rollout of the vaccine than most New Hampshire residents; many elderly Vermont residents are already eligible for the vaccine and, as of April 19, all Vermonters age 16 and up will be eligible.

“In light of positive vaccination trends and declining transmission rates in our community, we are evaluating our policies relative to those who are vaccinated, and we anticipate having more to say on that front in early April,” the college wrote in its statement.
