HANOVER — Three members of the Dartmouth College men’s heavyweight rowing team won’t be starting their offseasons for a little longer, having earned spots in the upcoming U23 World Championships in the Czech Republic.

Liam Keane, who will return to Dartmouth this fall and row as a graduated student, was selected on June 17 at a Sarasota, Fla., regatta to join Canada in the men’s four at worlds. It will be his second visit to the championships. Keane last rowed with the Dartmouth heavyweight varsity boat that placed third at the IRA Championship.

Rising junior Jacob Hidgins and rising sophomore William Bender, a Norwich native and Hanover High graduate, will represent the Big Green on the United States’ men’s eight in a boat that is made up of six Ivy Leaguers, complementing rowers from Northeastern, Stanford and Navy. Bender, like Keane, was a member of the bronze medal boat at the IRAs in May.

The U23 World Rowing U23 Championships be held in Račice, Czech Republic, from July 7-11.
