Two teenagers arrested in connection with shooting incident in Braintree

BRAINTREE, Vt. — A 16-year-old boy from South Carolina and a 17-year-old girl from Sharon have been charged after police said the boy fired a handgun from a moving vehicle toward a small group of people on Sunday afternoon.

The juvenile male, whose name was not released, allegedly fired “a number of shots” following an argument with another male, Vermont State Police said in a news release. Police were called to the area of 197 West St. in Braintree around 4:30 p.m. for a report of the incident, and authorities closed the road between Route 12 and Bear Hill for several hours.

No one was injured.

Police located the 16-year-old along with the 17-year-old around 5 p.m. Monday at North Beach Park in Burlington and arrested them, according to a news release.

The 16-year-old is charged with attempted aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, and the 17-year-old is charged with accessory after the fact to attempted aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

The male was put into custody of the Department of Children and Families and is being held at Woodside Juvenile Detention Facility. He is expected to be arraigned in Orange County Juvenile Court on Tuesday.

The female was released on a citation and is scheduled to appear in Orange County Juvenile Court on Aug. 19.

The state Bureau of Criminal Investigations is handling the matter, the release said.
