CORINTH — In floor voting on Tuesday, voters approved a highway fund budget of $883,000, of which $659,000 is to be raised by taxes, and gave a round of applause to the road crew, according to minutes from the meeting.

In an hand vote of 40-22, voters approved a general fund budget of $456,792, which had been amended on the floor from the warned amount of $456,482. The change reflects a decrease from $11,590 to $9,500 in the proposed budget for a contract with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department due to staffing shortages within that department, as well as the increase in compensation for Selectboard members that voters approved in a previous article. Voters raised the annual compensation for Selectboard members from the proposed $1,200 each to $2,000. About $240,000 to support the general fund is to come from taxes.

By ballot on Tuesday, Corinth voters elected officers in uncontested races.

Those elected include: Carl Demrow, three-year term on the Selectboard; Nancy Ertle, three-year term on the Waits River Valley School Board; and Jeremiah Goyette, a one-year term on the WRVS board.

Additional spending articles included $89,000 for the Highway Capital Equipment Fund, $15,000 for the Bridge Reserve Fund, and $5,000 for the Town Hall Capital Improvement Fund.
