Four Upper Valley Community Health Centers will receive $50,000 grants to increase their workforce capacity.
Ammonoosuc Community Health Services in Woodsville, HealthFirst Family Care Center in Canaan, North Star Health in Charlestown and West Central Behavioral Health in Lebanon are four of 21 centers that will receive over $1 million in funding from Endowment for Health, according to a news release. The grants aim to address the “financial fragility” of community health and mental health centers.
Endowment for Health is a Concord-based nonprofit that supports healthcare in New Hampshire, especially for vulnerable and underserved populations.
Community health centers offer primary care and preventive care services, while community mental health centers focus on mental and behavioral health. Both operate in underserved areas and serve patients regardless of the ability to pay. In 2023, community health centers in New Hampshire served over 100,000 patients, while community mental health centers served over 57,000, according to the release.
