Claremont Fire Department to Host Open House for 100th Anniversary

Claremont — The city’s fire department is holding a public open house on Saturday to mark the station’s 100th anniversary.

Though the Claremont Fire Department was formed in the mid-1800s, the current station on Broad Street was constructed in 1917, allowing the city to bring most of its apparatus, some of which was in City Hall, under one roof.

Fire Chief Rick Bergeron said the informal open house will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Most of the equipment is modern and in use, but there is a hand-turned hose reel which was in use before the brick building with four bays was constructed.

Tonight at 6:30 p.m. is the annual firemen’s parade along Pleasant Street, featuring 30 to 35 departments and about 50 pieces of apparatus.
