CLAREMONT — The Claremont Senior Center will close until further notice as of Monday due to the city’s increasing number of COVID-19 cases.
“This action was made for the safety and protection of our seniors,” Tom Liveston, vice chair of the center’s board, wrote in a statement posted on its website.
Drive-thru meals will continue to be available Tuesdays and Thursdays. People will also still be able to sign up for hearing aid assistance, foot clinics and blood drives. Rentals of the space will continue.
Other organizations are taking similar steps. The Main Street Museum canceled its “A Very Merry Museum!” celebration scheduled for Dec. 18.
“It’s with sadness (and frustration over this stupid *&%$ pandemic) that those of us over at The Main Street museum have decided that it’s in the best interest of our favorite Community to cancel our annual Holiday Variety Show,” an announcement on the White River Junction-based nonprofit organization’s Face book page read. “The COVID numbers are high, and rising. The museum is an intimate setting. Even with masks, we don’t feel we can provide a safe enough environment for all (especially the children). We have released Santa from his obligation. (Giving him more time to make toys for kiddos).”
The museum will be going ahead with its annual Tree Burn and Carnival Party, which takes place outside and is scheduled to take place Jan. 7.
The Thetford Chamber Singers have canceled all live performances this year and will instead be putting together a YouTube video of their show.
The Cornish Library canceled a craft event for kids, scheduled to take place Saturday, due to an increase in cases among school-age children.
