Claremont Man Arrested in Armed Robbery

Friday, November 30, 2018

Claremont — Police arrested a Claremont man on Friday afternoon and accused him of armed robbery at a Pleasant Street pharmacy earlier in the day.

According to police, Brian Mahoney, 42, of Claremont, entered the Sugar River Pharmacy about 9:45 a.m., displayed a weapon and left with a quantity of prescription drugs. No one was injured.

Responding officers searched the area with a K-9 unit and because of the proximity to Stevens High School, there was a temporary “shelter in place” order issued. The order also affected the middle school and Bluff Elementary School. Police said there was never any threat to the schools.

According to a police news release, the department’s criminal investigation division followed several leads and identified Mahoney as a possible suspect. A search warrant was executed and Mahoney was taken into custody, though police did not say where.

Mahoney is charged with felony robbery and is being held without bail. He will be arraigned on Monday in Sullivan County Superior Court.
