Claremont — Police are investigating the painting of a red swastika over a handmade sign.

Police Chief Mark Chase said the vandalism occurred on private property on Winter Street and his department received the report around noon today.

“We are investigating it now,” Chase said in an interview shortly after noontime.

Chase said the swastika, a Nazi symbol, was painted over the words “End White Supremacy.”

The property owner, who Chase declined to identify, has another sign on the property that says “Black Lives Matter.”
