Town Meeting preview: Chelsea voters to elect Selectboard member

Article of note: Voters will be asked to establish a penalty of 8% for taxes not paid or postmarked by their due date, and establish a monthly interest charge of 1% for taxes unpaid after the due date.

Contested races: Ronald Johnson and Jesse Brinkman Kay are facing off for a two-year seat on the Selectboard.

Budgets and spending articles: From the floor, voters will be asked to approve a general fund budget of $1.5 million, of which $1 million will come from taxes. That is up from a $1.41 million budget approved last year, of which about $953,000 came from taxes. They also will be asked for $14,240 for social service organizations and $2,000 for The Chelsea Spotlight Newsletter.

When, where and how to vote: Chelsea is scheduled to hold Australian ballot voting on Tuesday, March 7 from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the Chelsea Town Hall, 296 VT-110. The floor meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Town Hall that day.
