NEWPORT — A 23-year-old Charlestown man was sentenced to a total of two years in prison after pleading guilty for his involvement in a gunfire incident in the parking lot of McDonald’s in Claremont and then crashing the getaway vehicle in Newport.
Dylan Lyles pleaded guilty in Sullivan County Superior Court in Newport on May 19 to two felony counts of reckless conduct and was sentenced to one year in prison on each count to be served consecutively, according to court records. The sentence on the second count includes court-ordered participation in the TRAILS rehabilitation program.
Lyles also pleaded guilty to a felony count of criminal threatening, for which he received a 3.5- to 7-year prison sentence, fully suspended for 10 years, court records show.
A misdemeanor charge of conduct after an accident was dropped pursuant to the plea agreement.
Lyles was at the wheel of a fleeing vehicle from which witnesses observed gunshots had been fired following an altercation in the parking lot of McDonald’s on Washington Street last August, according to Claremont police. The fleeing vehicle took off towards Newport where it struck multiple cars on John Stark Highway before rolling over on Barton Whitney Road.
Lyles also was found guilty of a misdemeanor first offense of driving while intoxicated. He has had his driver’s license revoked for nine months, court records show.
