Charlestown — A fire destroyed a mobile home and damaged two others on Thursday morning in Morways Park in Charlestown.
Fire Chief Charlie Baraly said no one was injured and the man who owned the burned trailer wasn’t home at the time of the fire. He is, however, displaced, as the home was a total loss.
The call came in around 10:45 a.m., and when Baraly arrived, he said flames were shooting 30 to 40 feet into the air.
“The trailer was about 70 percent involved at that time,” Baraly said.
The fire reached a first alarm, and additional water was trucked in from surrounding towns.
Baraly said he wasn’t sure who owned the mobile home where the fire started, but according to property records, it is owned by Dennis Van Alstyne. He has family in the area, Baraly said.
The two neighboring trailers suffered heat damage to the siding. Those two units still are habitable.
The fire has been labeled undetermined. It appears that it started in the middle of the trailer, Baraly said.
