Fairlee — Britton Lumber Co. today said it has reached an agreement to buy a sawmill in Bath, N.H., to replace the sawmill in Fairlee it lost in a four-alarm fire in March 2015.

Britton Lumber plans to buy H.G. Wood, which manufactures Eastern white pine lumber and has run a planer mill, kilns and sawmill at its 38-acre site in the Grafton County town of Bath since 1972.

Britton Lumber president Robert Moses said rebuilding in a Connecticut River flood zone in Fairlee proved unfeasible economically.

But Britton Lumber said it will continue to run its wholesale building materials distribution business in Fairlee and that at least 50 percent of the pine produced in Bath will come to Fairlee to be distributed to retail customers.
