Bradford Elementary principal becomes assistant superintendent

BRADFORD, Vt. — Marla Ianello, previously principal of Bradford Elementary School, has become assistant superintendent of student support and operations at the Orange East Supervisory Union.
The elementary school is now helmed by Edith Fogerty, who began her interim role as principal on Monday, when Ianello switched jobs, according to an announcement posted to the Bradford Elementary Facebook page. Fogerty has been a teacher at the elementary school for more than a decade, and most recently worked as its technology integration facilitator.
Ianello first served as interim principal of Bradford Elementary during the 2020-2021 school year, and then became principal on July 1, 2021, according to in a news release posted by the supervisory union in early June. Before leading BES, she was the early childhood program coordinator for the Orange East Supervisory Union for eight years.
Ianello is “a ‘systems thinker’ through and through who seeks to build collaborative supports,” for students, OESU Superintendent Randy Gawel said in the release. “We are thrilled to welcome Marla.”
For her part, Ianello said she’s “looking forward to building stronger bonds with all of our supervisory union schools and their communities in support of educational excellence for our learners.”
Orange East includes six schools, including Bradford Elementary, and a technical center serving a total of more than 1,500 students in grades pre-K through 12, according to the supervisory union’s website. The district serves students from the Vermont towns of Bradford, Newbury, Corinth, Groton, Ryegate, Thetford, Topsham, Wells River, as well as local tuition towns.
