HARTFORD — Rescued workers recovered the body of a man who was found deceased in a wooded embankment below Bridge Street in White River Junction on Thursday night.
“There’s no indication of a crime, but due to the uncertainty surrounding the situation, an autopsy will be performed” by the state medical examiner, Hartford Police Sgt. Duncan MacDonald said Friday afternoon.
Police declined to provide the man’s name, pending notification of his family.
Emergency services responded to a call around 7 p.m. Thursday from a person who had “located an unhoused gentleman and was concerned that he was not breathing,” MacDonald said.
The area underneath the bridge spanning the White River between the Hartford municipal building and downtown White River Junction is often the site of a homeless encampment. It was unclear how many people were in the area that night, MacDonald said.
