LEBANON — Fire officials pulled the body of an adult male from the Mascoma River in Lebanon on Tuesday morning, Police Chief Richard Mello said.

Authorities have identified the deceased man, but his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, Mello said.

The circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain under investigation; an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Police received a call around 9 a.m. for a man who appeared to be deceased in the river behind 7 Foundry St., near the old Kleen Laundry building, Mello said. Police and fire officials responded, and authorities pulled the body from the river around 11 a.m.

The water in that area is “fairly shallow,” the chief said.
