Enfield, N.H. — Bob Mehler, 86, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at his home in Enfield. He was born on March 21, 1931, in Queens, N.Y., the son of George Jordan and Marion Mehler.

Bob grew up in Malverne, N.Y., and graduated from Malverne High School in June, 1948, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He then attended Manhattan College and completed his undergraduate studies in June 1952. Bob went on to the Penn Dental School at the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated in June 1956.

Immediately following dental school, Bob married the love of his life, Rosemary E. Sheridan, on July 21, 1956. After their wedding, and in order to “cut his teeth” (no pun intended) in his new profession, Bob enlisted to practice dentistry as a lieutenant in the Navy. Bob and Rosemary lived on the Bainbridge, Md., Naval Base until July 1958.

Bob and Rosemary then returned to Long Island, raising their four children in Massapequa, N.Y. He worked as a dentist, and then head of the dental department, at Pilgrim State Hospital in Brentwood, N.Y., and also served neighbors, friends and family as “Dr. Bob” in his small private practice. Bob retired from dentistry in 1989.

Bob’s favorite place in the world was Goose Pond, N.H., where his dad had purchased an old farmhouse in the 1930’s. Bob spent most of his summers at Goose Pond, and instilled the same love for his summer home in his children and grandchildren. He never enjoyed the Goose Pond home more than when he was sharing it with his extended family — sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.

Joined at the hip for 61 years, Bob adored his wife and best friend Rosemary — always doting and caring. He was a nurturing and proud grandpa, and loved watching his grandchildren grow. Bob was an avid athlete and loved sports, hiking and working outdoors. He was a talented craftsman — shipbuilder, wood carver, jeweler, sketcher — and always had a DIY home improvement project in the works. Bob was also very dedicated to his church, serving and supporting the St. William the Abbot Parish in Seaford, N.Y., and St. Helena’s Parish in Enfield, for over 50 years.

Bob is survived by his wife Rosemary of 61 years; son Bob Mehler (wife Mari Miya), son John Mehler; daughters Marybeth Mehler and Diane Glazer (fiancé Jim Murphy), and five grandchildren, Brian, Kelly and Danny Mehler, and Kevin and Ali Glazer; and his step-granddaughter Anna Loeschner.

A funeral mass will be held for Bob on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Helena’s Church, 36 Shaker Hill Rd, Enfield.
