WEST LEBANON — The Boar’s Head Provisions meat company has announced a recall of millions of pounds of ready-to-eat products made at a Virginia processing plant due to potential links to a nationwide listeria outbreak.

The recall includes products sold in Upper Valley stores, including the Co-op Food Stores, which sent out an alert to customers on Thursday. It applies to products made under the Boar’s Head and Old Country Brand labels and includes liverwurst, ham, beef salami, sausage, bologna and other products made at the company’s Jarratt, Virginia, plant.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday that that a liverwurst sample collected by the Maryland Department of Health tested positive for the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes.

The outbreak is linked to two deaths and the hospitalization of at least 33 people across 13 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Consumers are advised to discard any recalled products or return them to the store where purchased for a full refund, according to the Boar’s Head website. Customers may contact the Boar’s Head recall hotline at 888-266-7913 with questions or concerns.
