CLAREMONT — Another source of funding for the redevelopment of 56 Opera House Square is being recommended by the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority.

The $500,000 Community Development Block Grant is in addition to $400,000 in tax credits awarded to the West Claremont Center for Music and Arts, which plans to renovate the three-story brick building for use as a performance and gallery venue with a recording room and space for teaching. WCCMA is currently located on Old Church Road.

Melissa Richmond, executive director of WCCMA, said previously she is seeking other grants and donations to raise about $1.5 million to complete the renovations. Presently, an elevator is being installed behind the building that also will allow access to the upper floor of the Farwell Block, which is connected to 56 Opera House Square.
