SOUTH ROYALTON — Voters will reconsider a $3.8 million bond for renovations to the White River Unified District’s Bethel and Royalton school campuses Tuesday, May 20.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Bethel Elementary School (273 Pleasant St.) and White River Valley School (223 S. Windsor St., South Royalton) for Australian ballot voting.

Voters must cast ballots in the town that they live in. Absentee ballots are available at the Bethel and Royalton town clerks’ offices and must be returned prior to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The $6.2 million project, which would be partially funded through grants and donations, would include enlarging the workshop and welding areas, and creating a performing arts center at White River Valley High School in South Royalton, as well as improving stormwater mitigation near the gym. There also are plans to improve the secure entrances at the high school and the middle school in Bethel.

The vote is a reconsideration of the same bond article voters rejected in March, 435-415.

In order for the bond to pass this time around, two-thirds of the March “no” votes need to vote “yes,” meaning it would take at least 291 “yes” voters to approve the project.

If approved, the bond is expected to add about $50 to the tax bill for a home valued at $200,000.

An informational meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 19 at White River Valley High School. More information about the proposal can be found at https://sites.google.com/wrvsu.org/wrudbondinfo/.
