Bethel voters agree to borrow to update water system

BETHEL – Bethel voters approved 117-8 a $2.5 million bond for capital improvements to the town’s water system at the polls last month.
The vote was originally supposed to occur on Town Meeting day in March, but the town hadn’t met all statutory bond voting notification laws at the time.
The project is set to include improvements to aging water mains, replacement of the Gaiko Well House, and the construction of a new pump system on Krystal Drive. Approving the bond gives Bethel access to subsidized funding from Vermont’s low-interest Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
The Bethel Selectboard will officially award the project at its May 22 meeting, and construction is expected to begin this summer.
