BETHEL — Investigators can’t pinpoint the exact cause of the fire that took the lives of a Bethel couple early Tuesday morning.

But in a news release Wednesday, the state Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit said the fire appears to have been accidental.

Authorities also confirmed the identities of the deceased couple, Davis Dimock, 76, and Victoria Weber, 75, who resided in the Christian Hill Road home.

Bethel Fire Chief David Aldrighetti said Tuesday that the home, which was heated entirely with wood stoves, did not have smoke detectors. He urged the public to make sure their homes have functioning detectors with good batteries.

CORRECTION: Davis Dimock and Victoria Weber died in a fire at their Bethel home. Dimock’s first name was incorrect in an earlier version of this story.
