Etna, N.H. — Audrey McCollum, 92, passed away on Monday evening, September 5.
A 35-year resident of the Upper Valley, Audrey was therapist and writer, who published several books and hundreds of articles, including many in local newspapers. Audrey was a devoted environmentalist; she committed much of her time and energy to environmental causes; and the bulk of her most recent writing focused on topics relating to the preservation of the natural world.
In addition, Audrey continually strived to find ways to preserve the memory of her beloved husband, Dr. Robert W. McCollum, who died in 2010.
Audrey lived a long and incredibly rich life and touched the lives of so many others. Born and raised in New York City and spending decades living in the New Haven, Connecticut area, Audrey worked at Yale University Child Study Center for years before going into private practice, providing support and counseling to hundreds of clients.
She traveled the world, frequently visiting Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the South Pacific, her travels driven by her love of the natural world and other cultures and her curiosity about the lives of indigenous peoples.
Audrey will be deeply missed by her daughter, Cindy; her son, Doug; her son-in-law, John; her daughter-in-law, Karen; and her two grandsons, Justin and Zach.
A memorial service is being planned for Oct. Donations in Audrey’s memory can be made to the Hanover Conservancy—online at hanoverconservancy.orgor sent to 71 Lyme Rd., Hanover, NH 03755.
