Vermont Health Department offers free radon test kits

BURLINGTON — The Vermont Health Department is offering free test kits for radon, a colorless, odorless gas that can increase the risk of developing lung cancer.

One in 7 Vermont homes has high levels of radon, according to a news release from the department. Radon enters homes from the surrounding soil and bedrock.

“Testing is the only way to know whether your home has too much radon,” Vermont Health Commissioner Mark Levine said in a news release.

Vermonters can request test kits by sending a name, mailing address, physical address and phone number to radon@vermont.gov or by calling 1-800-439-8550. More information is available at healthvermont.gov/radon.
