NEWPORT — The next session of New London Hospital’s free eight-week nutrition program begins on Wednesday.
The course, taught by registered licensed dietitian Birgit Humpert, focuses on topics such as how food affects health; developing weight loss goals; mastering meal planning; how eating and exercise fit together; a grocery store tour and label reading; mindful eating and stress management tips.
The course takes place on Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.-noon, Jan. 15 to March 4 in the community room of the Newport Health Center, 11 John Stark Highway in Newport.

CLAREMONT — Valley Regional Hospital’s annual meeting will feature a keynote address by Dr. Joe Perras, the CEO of Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
The Claremont hospital’s event will take place at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the Claremont Savings Bank Community Center, 152 South St.
LEBANON — This month, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Blood Donor Program will gift a book to children in need when people who donate blood, platelets or plasma and mention its “Give a Child another Chapter” campaign.
As part of a partnership with the Norwich Bookstore, the Blood Donor Program will donate the books to children at The Family Place in Norwich.

NORWICH — Norwich Community Nurse, Inc., is seeking candidates for a new position helping residents with health care needs.
The group is seeking a person with a bachelor’s of science in nursing to work eight hours per week making home visits and communicating with residents by phone, according to a Listserv post.
Candidates must have a minimum of five years’ experience, and preference will be given to those with a background in elder care and community nursing. Knowledge about electronic health care records is required.

LEBANON — A new sports medicine physician will start welcoming patients at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital on Monday, according to a news release.
Dr. Peter Loescher comes to Lebanon hospital’s Multi-Specialty Clinic after 12 years of caring for patients at Gifford Health Care’s Sharon Health Center.
“Serving the region is important to me, and I’m grateful to continue doing so close to home at a community hospital that is part of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health system,” Loescher said in the release.
At APD, Loescher will focus on non-surgical therapies to recover from injury and to prolong joint health and mobility.
He earned his medical degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Mass., and his bachelor’s degree at Amherst College in Massachusetts. He completed his residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and is certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
LEBANON — West Central Behavioral Health has hired a new director of development and community relations.
Thetford resident Dave Celone will work with the Lebanon-based community mental health center’s board and development committee to raise funds for and awareness of the organization’s work, according to a news release.
Celone owned and managed Long River Gallery in White River Junction and Lyme.
He also previously served as director of development, annual giving and alumni relations at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in Hanover.
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Health Care and Rehabilitation Services announced the appointment of new hires in a news release.
Southeastern Vermont’s community mental-health agency’s new hires in the Upper Valley include: Marjorie Trombly, area manager in Hartford; Jill King, a residential specialist in Springfield; Catherine Mace-Tracy, a residential specialist in Woodstock; Mary Misavage, a school-based clinician in Hartford; Casey Potter, an office generalist in Hartford; Joshua Rich, a community direct service professional in Windsor; and Manuel Soares III, a behavioral interventionist in Hartford.
The new hires will support the nonprofit agency’s mental health, substance abuse and developmental disability programs.
