Wednesday: Authorities Say Church Pastor Died in Grafton Fire

Grafton — Authorities today said the 57-year-old man who had been pastor of Peaceful Assembly Church was killed in Tuesday’s fire at the historic church in Grafton.

A news release from the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office said John Connell died of smoke inhalation. Connell lived in an apartment on the property. The church dated to 1798 and was long used as Grafton’s meetinghouse.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Grafton Police, and the Grafton Fire Department.
