New London — Fire officials pulled a body out of Lake Sunapee Friday after police found a car stuck in the sand on a private beach, according to a news release issued by New London Police Chief Edward Andersen.

The New Hampshire medical examiner ruled the death a drowning, and Andersen said the incident was not suspicious.

Police had responded to a report of a car stuck on the beach off Soonipi Park Road, and the officer “checked the lake and a small water inlet where the body was located,” the news release said.

The car appeared to have been at the site overnight Thursday, said Andersen.

New London Fire Department officials recovered the body about 10 feet off shore.

Authorities said the incident was determined to be “an unattended drowning/death.”

Andersen said he was withholding the identity of the person involved pending notification of next of kin.
