Assistant Director of WISE Honored

Sunday, April 19, 2015
Lebanon — Abby Tassel, assistant director of WISE, has received the 2015 National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s Visionary Voice Award.

Presented during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the annual award recognizes the creativity and hard work of individuals around the country who have demonstrated outstanding work to end sexual violence, WISE said in a recent new release. “Tassel is highly regarded for her experience, wisdom and innovative approaches to advocacy and creating social change.”

Tassel has worked in domestic and sexual violence victim advocacy for more than two decades. In her 20-year tenure with WISE, she has also served as an advocate, educator and board member. She represents the nonprofit on several task forces and advisory groups in the Twin States and is a sought-after trainer on issues of sexual violence, WISE said.

Recently, she created an equine-facilitated group for survivors of violence with High Horses Therapeutic Riding Program.

Peggy O’Neil, executive director of WISE, said Tassel’s vision guides the Lebanon-based agency.

“She has made outstanding contributions to end violence against women and continues to lift up and celebrate the voices of survivors, while compelling all of us to examine and work to change the barriers that prevent survivors from speaking their truth,” O’Neil said. “We are fortunate to experience her creative energy, inner calm and persistent hard work. We are just thrilled that our colleague is receiving this award; it is so well deserved.”— Staff report
