Winifred (Little) Williams

New London, N.H. — Winifred (Little) Williams, 95, of Parkside Road and Bonita Springs, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 with her family and loved ones surrounding her.

Winnie was a life long resident of New London, New Hampshire. She was born in Franklin, N.H. on Feb. 8, 1919 to New London residents Arthur Stanley and Marion (Shepard) Little. Both the Little and Shepard families have long histories in Merrimack county. Winnie graduated from New London High School and Colby Jr. College. She then attended Stetson University and graduated from Wheelock College in 1941.

Winnie taught school in Guild, Newport and Claremont from 1941-1946 and owned and operated a private kindergarten for 21 years. She taught kindergarten at Colby Jr. College from 1968-1974 and then returned home to teach until 1980. She owned a home in Bonita Springs, Fla. since 1983 and spent half the year there and half in N.H.

Winnie was a member of The First Baptist Church of New London and also served as Deacon and past president of the Baptist Women’s Fellowship from 1969-1970. She had been a member of the New London Woman’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the New London Outing Club and volunteered at the New London Hospital and Kearsarge Area Council on Aging. Winnie loved to garden, sail and quilt.

Her husband, Herbert O. Williams, died in 1984. Members of her family surviving include a son and his wife, Michael O. and Sherry Williams of New London; a daughter, Wendy Johnson of New London; four grandchildren, Megan and her husband, Michael Arce, Andrew and his wife, Erin Maloney, Benjamin S. Williams and Bradford Culver; great-granddaughter Alexia Winn Johnson; nieces, nephews and cousins. Winnie was loved by her family and cherished by the community. She will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of New London, N.H. Burial will be in Old Main Street Cemetery, New London in the spring.
