Canaan, N.H. — Arthur E. Dimond, Sr., 85, passed quietly into heaven April 1st at Woodlawn Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Newport, N.H. after a long and courageous fight with colon cancer and heart disease.
The only son of the late Walter H. and Alice (Eastman) Dimond of Orange, N.H., Arthur was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Vera Morse Dimond, and his sister, Edna Chase.
Before retirement, he was employed for over 50 years as a board sawyer of Morris Braley, Hammond Lumber Co. and Charles Neily. A lot of log cabin homes in the area were milled by his skill; which he was very proud of. In his early years he logged with horses and oxen.
His past times were hunting, fishing, fixing old cars and trucks, climbing Mt. Cardigan, maple sugaring, walks in the woods, animals of all kinds. Especially Zeke, Ruger and Ricky.
He is survived by four sons, Douglas of Grafton, N.H., Bruce of Enfield, N.H., Arthur Jr. of Canaan, Randolph of Canaan and their respective spouses, Starr and Lillis; two sisters, Jenny Souse and Ester Johnson; five grandchildren: Kristine Dimond, Delilah Burns, Brad Dimond, Shane Dimond, Angela Dimond; and eight great-grandchildren; along with his companion of 25 years, Marjorie B. Hill of Canaan; and their dog, Rusty.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 3 p.m. with burial to follow in the Grafton Center Cemetery in Grafton.
