Bailey, adoptable from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society

“Hi! My name’s Bailey and I’m a 2-year-old neutered male Chihuahua mix.

“I came to Lucy Mackenzie with a bunch of my buddies from Mississippi earlier this summer. I was adopted soon after arriving, but things didn’t work out as well as we had hoped. The good news is that we all learned a lot about what I need in my new home. My continued obedience training is going to be very important. Some people think that smaller dogs can get away with things just because we’re small, but that’s not true. Boundaries and rules are really helpful and will go a long way towards my happiness.

“We also learned that young children confuse me quite a bit. I’ve met people of all ages here at the shelter, but in my home, it would be best if I lived with older, dog-savvy children only.

“I really like being around people, and will do pretty much anything to be near them. I’ve been known to climb up and over my kennel door here at the shelter, which is why I shouldn’t be trusted in a fenced in area left to my own devices. I will probably find a way out.

“The good news is that I love going for walks and playtime, especially with my favorite toy balls, so I promise you that we’lll always have a good time. If you’re looking for a new canine companion that will surely bring lots of love and joy to your life, stop in and meet me today!”

(Bailey is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.)

Mr. Lucky, adoptable from Upper Valley Humane Society

Mr. Lucky is a 3-month-old lop rabbit. He loves to be petted and doesn’t mind being held.

Mr. Lucky is a special bunny since his legs don’t quite work the same as other rabbits, but that doesn’t slow him down a bit. He loves to eat greens and enjoys special hay treats.

Mr. Lucky likes to spend his time hiding in boxes or hanging out with his human friends. He’s met other rabbits and doesn’t seem to enjoy their company.

(Mr. Lucky is up for adoption from the Upper Valley Humane Society, located at 300 Old Route 10 in Enfield and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Upper Valley Humane Society is also on Facebook and Instagram and can be reached at 603-448-6888.)

Dhara, adoptable from Sullivan County Humane Society

“I am 3-year-old Dhara. I showed up in a neighborhood and spent a few days hanging out in the middle of the road. The residents were afraid that I would get hit by a car so called for help and here I am!

“I am a sweet, laid back girl! I am vet checked, spayed, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped and FIV/FeLV negative.”

(Dhara is up for adoption from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email
