Leon, adoptable from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society

“Hi! My name’s Leon and I’m a 3-year-old neutered male that came to Lucy Mackenzie from a shelter in Virginia. I’m so glad I did, too, because I really like Vermont! I’ve had a blast playing in the snow, and look forward to the many spring and summertime adventures ahead of me.

“I’ve been working a lot on basic obedience behaviors with the people here, and I’m doing a great job. Sometimes I think I’d really like to find a family that already has a dog, so I could have a dog-friend. I think that would make me very happy! I don’t need one, but it could be fun. The dog would have to be similar in size and be of the right temperament, of course.

“Small children tend to make me a little nervous, so a household with no children or older kids would be best.

“It might take me a bit to warm up to new people, but once I do, I promise I’ll be your best friend. If you’ve been looking for a deserving, loving new canine companion, stop in and meet me today.”

Leon is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.

Doxie, adoptable from Upper Valley Humane Society

“Hi! My name is Doxie and I am a 5-year-old mixed breed dog. I am easily excited and very playful, but can be a bit rough at times, so I would benefit from some basic training.

“I am house and crate trained, and I also love to go for car rides. I can be a bit of a counter surfer and do not like to share my food or toys, so I would be best in a home with older, respectful children.

“If you think I could be the dog for you, please come and meet me today!”

Doxie is up for adoption from the Upper Valley Humane Society, located at 300 Old Route 10 in Enfield and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Upper Valley Humane Society is also on Facebook and Instagram and can be reached at 603-448-6888.

Astrid (first picture) and Ada, adoptable from Sullivan County Humane Society

“We are 2-year-old Astrid and Ada. Our human mom died so a friend of hers took us in. Sadly, she already had multiple pets so was unable to keep us. She found us a new home but that did not work out when they had a baby. So, our mom’s friend took us back and brought us here.

“We are shy and would love to stay together. We are vet checked, spayed, treated for fleas and worms, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and microchipped!”

Astrid and Ada are up for adoption from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email
