LEBANON — Snow and icy conditions contributed to the vehicle accident that took the life of a 59-year-old Lebanon man while he was off-roading at his property on Eastman Hill Road on Monday morning, according to Lebanon police.
Michael Michalenoick, the former owner of Carpet Mill on Mechanic Street in Lebanon, was pronounced dead at the scene at his Eastman Hill property when Lebanon’s police and fire departments were called at 9:49 a.m. to an off-road vehicle accident involving a Jeep, officials said on Monday.
Michalenoick was at the wheel when the “vehicle lost control and overturned while climbing an embankment” and Michalenoick and a passenger were both ejected from the vehicle,” Lebanon police said in a news release.
The passenger, who was not identified but is described by police as a male in his 60s, was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with “minor injuries,” the news release said.
“There was snow and ice on the ground from (the previous night) and they were climbing an embankment and it looks like they lost traction and the vehicle rolled over and in the process of rolling it ejected both of them,” Lebanon Police Chief Phil Roberts said.
Michalenoick sold Carpet Mill in 2020.
The business is now owned by longtime general manager Jean-Luc Maynard.
In 2013, Michalenoick’s property on Eastman Hill was the site of fire that destroyed a three-bay detached garage.
