29 Participants Partake in 4-H Competition

29 Participants Partake in 4-H Competition

Randolph — Twenty-nine 4-H members participated in the 2018 Central and Southeast Region Dairy Judging Tour on May 5. The annual competition included judging two classes of Jerseys at White Rock Farm, two classes of Ayrshires at the Conant farm and two classes of Holsteins at the Williams farm.

Participants competing in the senior division, ages 14-18, were required to provide oral reasons without notes for two classes. Juniors, ages 11-13, were encouraged to give reasons using notes though their answers were not factored into their overall score.

Placements were as follows:

In the novice category, for first-time participants ages 8-10, Shyanne Ensminger of Bethel placed first; Joey Ferris of Braintree placed second; Kalynn Messier of Randolph Center placed third. Owen Bishop, Leah Rogers, Joey Palazzo and Brooke Rowlee also participated.

In the beginners division for ages 8-10, Dominic Palazzo of Pomfret placed first; Elizabeth Waterman of Thetford Center placed second; Dani Flint of South Royalton placed third; and Hailey Dow of West Hartford placed fourth.

In the rookie division for first-time participants ages 11-13, Amanda Ferris of Braintree placed first; Zinny Harris of North Springfield placed second; Annabelle Messier of Randolph Center placed third; and Aliyah Ensminger of Bethel placed fourth.

In the juniors division for ages 11-13, Myra McNaughton of Weathersfield placed first; Zed McNaughton of Weathersfield placed second; and Hayleigh Howe of South Royalton placed third. Josie Cross, Dylan Slack, Julia Howe and Hayden Howe also participated.

In the seniors division for ages 14-18, Caleb Palazzo of Pomfret placed first; Katherine Howard of East Thetford placed second; and Tyler Slack of Bethel placed third. Brennan Vaughan and Gabe Howe also participated.

Sylvia Johnson and Keenan Thygesen, both from Tunbridge, participated in four of the six classes but were not able to complete the judging tour due to other commitments.
