The Dartmouth College women’s soccer team’s five-game win streak ended on Saturday when it fell to Columbia 2-0 in New York. The Big Green had 14 shots in the contest, six of which were on goal, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Ola Goebel had one save for Dartmouth in the loss. Lykke Ihrfelt led the Big Green in shots with four.

The Big Green (7-2-2 overall, 1-1-0 league) will aim to get back on track on Saturday when they host Harvard at 4 p.m.

Stephens named Ivy’s Defensive Player of the Week

After a 13-tackle performance in the Big Green’s 14-10 win over Penn on Saturday, sophomore defensive back Johnny Stephens was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week.

Stephens and the Big Green (1-2, 1-0) head to Yale on Saturday.

Equestrian keeps the winning going

The Big Green, which came into its road matchup against No. 1 Lynchburg ranked second in the country, picked up a 5-4 victory on Friday.

Grace Russo, Cassidy Exner and Camilla Jerng, who was named ECAC Fences and Flats Rider of the Week last week, picked up first-half wins to put Dartmouth ahead.

The Big Green locked down the victory in the second half with wins from Jerng and Exner, and Lucy Exner forced a tie.

Dartmouth was not done there as it also beat Bridgewater, 6-4, on Saturday. Ellie Sadrian, Mia Thomasson and Cassidy Exner had wins in fences, and Jerng, Russo and Exner picked up wins in flats.

The Big Green (3-0) hosts Centenary on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Men’s soccer is winless in latest matchups

After impressive wins over Vermont and Princeton, both ranked No. 18 in the nation at the time of their respective contests, the Big Green visited New Hampshire on Tuesday and played to a scoreless draw with the Wildcats.

The Big Green mustered just one shot during the tilt. TJ Jeffreys had three saves, keeping things even for the visitors.

Dartmouth followed that tie with a 1-0 loss to Penn on Saturday in Philadelphia. The Big Green generated more shots in the defeat (seven), two of which were on net. Jeffreys had one save.

The Big Green (3-4-2, 1-1-0) hosts Yale on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Women’s rugby gets back on track

Dartmouth snapped its two-game losing streak on Saturday at Brophy Field, routing American International College 57-19.

The Big Green were led by Marley Larkin, who had four tries on the afternoon. Dartmouth also had strong contributions from Annie Henrich (two tries, six conversions); Vanessa Ortiz-Pallen (two tries); and Jordynn LeBeau (one try).

Dartmouth (2-2 overall, 2-1 NEIRA) visits Princeton on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match.

Men’s golf fares well in Lake Placid

Dartmouth delivered a strong performance at the Columbia Autumn Invitational over the weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y., finishing fourth at 5 over par. Benjamin Wang (5 under) led the Big Green individually, tying for second, while Tyler Brand finished fourth at 4 under.

The Big Green will next compete at the Metropolis Intercollegiate in White Plains, N.Y., beginning on Oct. 12

Women’s golf also performs well

The Big Green women also performed well over the weekend at the Yale Invitational, finishing fourth at a team 31 over par. Sophia Li was Dartmouth’s top individual finisher at 5 over, tying for eighth.

Up next for Dartmouth is the Battle at the Beach in Newark, Del., beginning Oct. 24.

Field hockey splits recent matchups

Dartmouth got its weekend started with a 3-1 win on Friday over UC Davis at Chase Field. Ruby Walsh scored twice, and Amelie Luessmann added a goal. Riley Dumigan added two assists. Kylie McKinley had three saves in the win.

The Big Green could not close their weekend with a win, however, falling 3-1 to Columbia on Sunday in New York. Ella Bowman scored Dartmouth’s lone goal, assisted by Dumigan and Ava Russo.

Dartmouth (3-6-0, 1-2-0) visits Princeton on Friday for a 5 p.m. matchup and will travel to Quinnipiac for a noon battle on Sunday.

Women’s volleyball’s losing skid extends to three

The Big Green dropped a close one to Brown, 3-2, on Friday down in Providence, R.I. Dartmouth dropped the contest’s deciding set 15-12. Riley Imamura had a strong day despite the loss with 17 kills.

Dartmouth couldn’t stop its losing streak moving to three matches with a 3-0 loss at Yale on Saturday. Zori Brown led the Big Green with 12 kills.

The Big Green (6-7, 0-3) will get two chances to pick up their first Ivy League win this week, first at Cornell on Friday at 6 p.m. and then at Columbia on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Men’s and women’s cross country battle in Pennsylvania

The Big Green ran at Lehigh’s Paul Short Run on Friday, with the men finishing 15th and the women finishing 22nd. Connor Foley (22nd/24:32.1) led the Dartmouth men, and Virginia Kraus (6th/20:42) had the top time for the women.

Both squads compete at the NEICAAA Championships in Hopkinton, N.H., on Friday.

Sailing competes at a couple of events

The Big Green competed on home waters over the weekend during the first round of the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship, where Olivia Drulard and Kathryn McGranahan finished seventh.

Dartmouth also competed in the Danmark Trophy, hosted by the Coast Guard, where the Big Green also finished seventh.

Dartmouth visits St. Mary’s College of Maryland for the first round of the Open Atlantic Coast Championship, Connecticut College for the Stu Nelson and Bowdoin for the Hewitt Trophy, all of which take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Stavroff to represent U.S. at Spengler Cup

Hayden Stavroff, a standout for the men’s hockey team, has been chosen to play for the U.S. Collegiate Selects team, which will compete in the Spengler Cup in Switzerland at the end of December.

Stavroff, who led the country in goals last season with 29 and was the ECAC’s Player of the Year among several other accolades, is the first Dartmouth player selected for the squad.

Women’s tennis gets new assistant

Louise Wikander, a top-100 Division I singles player from the University of Denver, is joining the Big Green as an assistant coach. In addition to her playing career, Wikander has privately coached and helped with Wilson tennis camps.

“I am incredibly excited to join the Big Green and have the opportunity to coach the women’s tennis team. I’m looking forward to working with the players, supporting their development and becoming part of the Dartmouth community,” she said in a news release.
