NEWBURY, Vt. — Police are investigating a fatal collision between an electronic bicycle and a pickup truck in South Ryegate, Vt. on Tuesday.

Kathryn Mabey, a 64-year-old Newbury resident, died Tuesday afternoon after the e-bike she was riding was struck by a GMC Sierra truck just after 1 p.m., according to a news release from Vermont State Police.

The collision occurred as Mabey was attempting to cross Scott Highway near the intersection with Church Street, police said.

When first responders arrived on scene, they began CPR on Mabey who was unresponsive. She was transported to Cottage Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The truck operator, a 65-year-old North Carolina man, was attempting to swerve around Mabey when he hit her. He sustained no injuries and only minor damage to his vehicle.

Though the investigation into the incident is ongoing, “neither impairment nor speed appear to be factors,” police said.

Vermont State Police ask anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the St. Johnsbury Barracks at 802-748-3111.
