2 Massachusetts men identified as victims in Brookfield, Vt., shooting

The man who died in a shooting in Brookfield, Vt., Friday night had traveled from Massachusetts with his friend and suffered a gunshot wound to the torso, Vermont State Police said in a press release on Sunday afternoon.

Police identified Juan Sierra, 27, from Springfield, Mass,, as the decedent. They are treating his death as a homicide.

Miguel Fuentes, 29, also from Springfield, was also shot and later hospitalized at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. His condition was “critical but stable” as of Saturday, police said.

According to police, both men were shot outside a home on Route 14, where Sierra died. Fuentes “was able to drive off before being assisted by a passerby several miles away,” police said.

Police have not reported any arrests or details, but said they believe the incident is isolated. An investigation is ongoing.
