Lebanon’s Schmidt Wins N.E. Title
Keene, n.h. — Lebanon High’s Colette Schmidt shot a 75, then prevailed in a four-way playoff to capture the New England girls high school championship yesterday at Bretwood Golf Course in Keene.
Schmidt, a senior, beat out Julia Kemmling of Berlin (Conn.), Nicole Scola of Prout (R.I.) School and Marissa Grillo of Avon (Conn.) High.
Schmidt, a Grantham native, was the runner-up in the NHIAA individual championship each of the last two autumns.
Lauren Mayer, of Woodstock, shot a 97.

Meriden — The summer season kicked off for the Plainfield Soccer Club on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader at the Plainfield School. Division IV Lebanon-Central Supply won the day’s opening match over Springfield, while in the second game, Divsion IV Hartford edged Division V Lebanon Mak’s.
Lebanon Central Supply (1-0) scored twice in each half. Owen Johnstone and Miguel Hernandez had the first half scores, with Jacob Armstrong and Martin Gradijan scoring in the second. Springfield avoided the shutout with a goal in the 80th minute. Kenny Weitzman (one save) and Hernandez (two saves) combined in goal for Central Supply.
In the afternoon’s second game, Christian Hernandez scored in the 86th minute from Nate Gariepy to pull Mak’s even with Hartford at 2-2, only to have Hartford respond with the game-winner just over a minute later.
Noah Ryder’s corner kick goal had given Mak’s (0-1) a 1-0 lead heading into the second half.
