Hanover Boys Are Maine Men

— Against in-state opponents or otherwise, the Hanover High boys lacrosse team has been making things interesting during its unbeaten start.

Marauder senior attack Austin Taylor netted the winner in overtime, giving Hanover an 8-7 win over Falmouth (Maine) High yesterday at Merriman-Branch Field.

It’s the Marauders’ second win over an out-of-state opponent, and third one-goal win as they’ve begun the season 3-0. They beat Champlain Valley Union, of Vermont, 5-4 in their season opener Monday before beating New Hampshire Division I rival Concord by the same score Thursday.

Senior midfielder Jesse Brown scored a hat trick yesterday for Hanover, while sophomore Conor Austen scored twice and Brendan Forauer had a goal and an assist. Worthy Gardner had a goal, Zach Taylor tallied an assist for the Marauders.

Carl Keating gathered five ground balls for Hanover, while goaltender Dan DeRoy made nine stops. The Marauders play at Nashua North tomorrow.

Derryfield 15, Kearsarge 2

— In a battle between two unbeaten teams nicknamed the Cougars, Kearsarge slipped to 2-1 while Derryfield improved to 3-0.

Peter Allen and Andrew Van Hooydonk each had a goal and an assist for the visitors, while goalie Will Aufranc made 22 saves.

Sophomore Matt Pickman played a strong game at midfield for Kearsarge, which plays the last of a three-game road trip Tuesday at John Stark.

Cushing 7, KUA 5

Ashburnham, Mass. — Cushing Academy snapped a 5-5 tie with two goals in the final four minutes to defeated Kimball Union (0-4).

Eric Megnia scored three goals for KUA, and teammate Andrew Jarrett added two. Goalie Jon Butler made 11 saves for the Wildcats, who host New Hampton on Wednesday.

Girls Lacrosse

Brewster 17, KUA 6

Meriden — Kimball Union dropped a home decision to Brewster Academy.

Storm Sideleau scored four goals for the Wildcats, and teammates Morgan Walsh and Kayla Jacobs, of Norwich, added one apiece.

The KUA goaltenders had many close shots taken on them; Christine Bouchat-Bonin had six saves and Amelie Poirier had five.

The Wildcats visit the Tilton School on Wednesday.

Kearsarge 10, John Stark 5

Henniker — Libby Brooks scored four goals as Kearsarge (2-0) doubled up John Stark.

Haley Brooks and Caitlin Anderson scored two goals apiece for the Cougars, and Jenna Bready and Leanna Blakeman added one apiece.

Morgan Galluzzo made fives saves for Kearsarge, which visits Plymouth tomorrow.

Track and Field

Lebanon Girls Fourth

— Raiders’ senior Moriah Morton won both the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 30.25 seconds) and javelin (124 feet, 10 inches) as Lebanon placed fourth of 12 teams at the Pelham Invitational.

Kelly Ludew won the 300 hurdles (50.60) and placed third in the 100 hurdles (18.69), while Natasha Goodwin (high jump; 4-10) Heather Selmer (pole vault; 8-06) and Georgia Michalovic (triple jump; 32-00) all had runner up finishes. Nell Houde was third in the 1,600 (5:43.75), Lauren Anikis was third in the triple jump (31-11.75) and Samantha MacDonald was tied for fifth in the pole vault (7-00).

The Raiders’ received sixth-place finishes from Katherine Colt (100 dash; 13.74) and the 4x400 relay team of Morton, Emily Han, Claire Han and Ludew (4:34.02).

The Raider boys placed seventh, led by senior Josh Fontaine’s win in the 3,200 in 10:08.25. Second-place Lebanon finishes came from Craig Telfer (110 hurdles; 16:03) and Galen Moynihan (high jump; 5-08) while Evan O’Reilly was third in the 400 dash in 54.81.

Teddy Bessette was fifth in the 800 (2:06.46) and sixth in the 3,200 (10:39.62), Travis Maxham was fourth in the pole vault (10-06) and Kevin Pomer was sixth in the high jump with a lunge of 5-04.
