Windsor — One of the reasons that the Woodstock Union High boys basketball team reached the Vermont Division II semifinals was the late-season improvement of 6-foot-3 center Connor Fegard. The junior was rewarded for his contribution to the success of the Wasps by being named to the Vermont Division I and II Dream Team.

“I was surprised when the phone call came,” Fegard said.

The Dream Team consists of the top 12 underclassmen in the state, as selected by the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association. Fegard was recognized during a ceremony on Saturday at Windsor High School.

The call to Fegard was made by VBCA president Dave Fredrickson, who said he calls all the winners, congratulates them and then tells them what to wear. Fegard paid attention and showed up wearing a white shirt and red polka-dot tie.

“That was a nice call to get,” said Fegard.

It was the 15th annual VBCA Senior All-Star Games that packed the Windsor Gym. There were four games played and dozens of awards presented.

“This is a great event,” said Windsor High School Athletic Director Bob Hingston, who applauded all the work that Fredrickson does to make the day so special.

“He’s got this thing fine-tuned like a Swiss watch,” Hingston said of Fredrickson.

“I’ve been asked why we don’t have this at the University of Vermont or some other place, but Windsor is right in the middle of the state and this is such a wonderful place to watch a basketball game,” said Fredrickson, who retired after coaching the Mount Anthony boys basketball team to multiple championships.

On the court, the South D-III/IV girls beat the North 114-84, while the North boys won their game 113-87. In the D-I/II girls game, the North rolled to a 106-56 triumph.

Some of the other area award winners were:

∎ Division III and IV Dream Team: Girls — Ashley Wilcox, Windsor and Michaela Pomeroy, Thetford; Boys — Mike Bradley, Windsor and Levi West, Randolph.

∎ Coaches’ Milestone: 100 wins — Eric Ward, Thetford.

∎ Division III Boys Coach of the year — Jerry Rilling, Randolph.
